I bought the core duo also and Love it. We were considering a second TiVo (sad but we DO watch that much TV) but I wanted to dabble in the Media PC world. So a Core Duo and an EyeTV unit. Oct 5, 2017 - Any Mac will do though the Mac mini's size is a nice fit for Home Theater use. Your Mac can be the center of your home theater, essentially turning your Mac. Elgato EyeConnect UPnP Streaming Media Server for the Mac. We benefit from the fact that we still have basic analog cable so we can use the internal tuner in the EyeTV unit. I hate the slow interface on all digital TV solutions. I too an using it on a 9 year old Trinitron and using the $20 cable that is available on the apple site to dumb the DVI down to composite or YC. Although, it's NOT computer res, it is very usable if you go into the display prefs and size down the display so you can see the menus. Normally we just have it in overscaln and deal with not being able to see the menus. Realistically, we don't 'compute' on it. I do use airport to push video files (funny stuff from the internet) to the Movies Directory on the Mini so they can be seen with Front Row. Remix os player kingdom hearts union x. Of course, you can always open movies directly in QT and CMD-F and watch them full screen. It's fun seeing a Mac UI on my TV and the EyeTV is pretty cool although not as elegant as the TiVo. I am however getting an itch for a TV with DVI in now. May have to go shopping today. I am running the dual core mini with a gig of memory and use my SONY 51 HD as a display. I used the Monster cable for connection to my 6.1 system, and also run wireless keyboard and mouse. It is unreal!!! My friends are amazed at the display. I use it primarily for music and videos (also hooked it into my 5.1 system) and I can tell you it's great quality. I use a wireless keyboard and mouse and sometimes I use it as a computer (web surfing, e-mail, iChat, etc.) and it still runs beautifully. We have wireless internet in the house so the only connections I have is DVI to connect it to the TV and then I connected it to my stereo system. IPhoto slideshows and MPEG4 videos look wonderful, and that's on my 10+ year old Sony 32' tube TV. I have a new High Def TV coming tomorrow and can't wait to see how great things look.
